Global Health: Take Action - Access to Essential Medicines
On the first weekend of September, Ignite ran its second Annual Global Health: Take Action Seminar. This year the topic was Access to Essential Medicines. Participants had the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers prominent in the field of essential medicines, and to take part in a range of interactive activities.
MSF Speaker Night:
- Friday 2nd September, 5:30 - 7:00pm @ Clayton campus
The seminar kicked off on Friday night, 5.30-7pm at Clayton Campus, with guest speaker Dr Mohamed-Ali Trad from Medicines Sans Frontieres. Dr Trad worked extensively in Thailand treating HIV and tuberculosis, and was part of the response to the cholera outbreak in Haiti.
Global Health Take Action Seminar:
- When: 3rd September, 9:30am - 3:30pm @ Amrep Seminar Room, Alfred Hospital, Prahran
- Cost: $5 (100% fundraising for vaccinations for GAVI Alliance)
Global Health: Take Action continued on Saturday with an interactive day full of activities and guest speakers, including:
- Dr Beverly Snell, pharmacist and principal fellow from the Burnet Institute who specialised in essential medicines work within a public health framework, including refugee settings and humanitarian emergencies.
- Mr Michael Selgelid, academic and bioethicist with the department of bioethics at Monash University
- Mr Fabian Kong, a pharmacist who worked extensively to implement essential drugs programs in East Timor
