GET INVOLVED!
IGNITE depends on the initiative and involvement of its members - and there are many ways to play your part. We are currently in the process of forming the following subcommittees that tackle various areas that we believe are important. These subcommittees reflect the values of the group as a whole.
EDUCATION An area that Ignite has already been actively involved in since its beginning, the education subcommittee focuses on creating events that people can learn from, involved key speakers in relevant areas. Each year there are 3-4 Burnet Institute Educational evenings to arrange plus a Guest Speaker for the Ignite Annual Dinner and more. Ignite would like to expand this area to include more seminars and workshops so if you would like to become involved in helping to organise an event such as this please get in touch with us through our email.
ADVOCACY There are many global, national and local issues that Ignite members feel passionate about and to reflect this passion we are establishing the advocacy subcommittee. It is a new area and aims to coordinate and embrace active advocacy campaings from peaceful protest to government letter writing. It aims to strengthen Ignite's ties with other organisations such as student MAPW and The Oaktree Foundation.
VOLUNTEERING A new subcommittee for Ignite, the volunteering subcommittee will be reasearching the possible volunteer options available to its members, both locally, throughout Australia and potentially overseas. Currently Ignite has no active participation in volunteering as a group, although many of its members do volunteer outside of the auspice of Ignite. We would like to change that and make volunteering opportunities more accessible. To become involved in this subcommittee please email Ignite to express your interest.
OUTREACH Over the past year of so Ignite has been considering outreach work, mainly to schools, to encourage students to become involved in medicine and international health, to come along to our events and to educate our peers. This is now becoming a possibility with more members looking to become involved actively in Ignite and help to establish an outreach program. An exciting area to become involved in as it gets off the groun, email Ignite to help us get it up and running!
FUNDRAISING With mulitple patner organisations worldwide that we fundraise for and support, the fundraising subcommittee is an intergral part of Ignite's work. Without fundraising our events are limited and the much needed support we give to clinics in India, Africa, and Central America will be reduced. The recently established subcommittee aims to coordinate our approach to fundraising so that we can maximise our efficiency and effectiveness in gaining income.
