Electives

Electives are one of the most exciting parts of the medical curriculum.  But how do you go about finding an elective to suit you, and really getting the most out of it?

Top 5 Tips

  1. Just Do It - Electives take time and effort to organise, so it is important to set your mind on it early and make a start.
  2. Think about Why - There are hundreds of interesting and exciting electives to choose, but what do you really want out of it?
  3. All about Attitude - Noone can be 100% prepared, the crucial thing is to enter your elective with openess, flexibility and humility.
  4. Relationships - You have skills to offer, but there's no need for a 'hero'.  Focus on learning and serving as it is the relationships formed that ultimately count.
  5. Bring It Home - Your Elective experience need not stop when you return to Oz.  By sharing your experiences others will also reap the benefits.
