Ignite Millenium Development Goals (MDG) Photo Exhibition
The time has once again come to show off your photographic prowess and enter the biennial Ignite photo competition, held in conjunction with VSAP (Melbourne Uni) and UHAD (Deakin Uni).
This year’s theme is the MDGs and Global Health, in keeping with the focus of the UN NGO conference that will be held in Melbourne later this year. We would encourage photo entries to focus on this broad theme.
Selected will be displayed at a public photo exhibition, which is being held as a component of the public program of the UN NGO conference. This event, on Thursday August 26th, will be open to all medicine students and friends. Guests will be invited to vote for their favourite photo, and winners will be announced at the end of the night.
Entry details:
Competition closes midnight, Friday August 6th.
Maximum of 3 photos per person – send to ignitephotoexhibition@gmail.com with the attached entry form.
See the entry form attached for more details or email ignitephotoexhibition@gmail.com if you have further queries.
Zero Carbon Australia Report Launch and Presentation
The Zero Carbon Australia Stationary Energy Plan - to be launched at this seminar - argues that it is technically possible for Australia to reach 100 per cent renewable energy within a decade, and that the technology to achieve the transition is already commercially available. This event brings together key voices in the renewable energy debate to explore the state of the industry, survey the critical decade ahead, and discuss the challenges facing a zero carbon roadmap.
Speakers:
Dr. John Daley (CEO, Grattan Institute) Dr. Keith Lovegrove (Solar Thermal Group Leader, ANU) Lane Crockett (General Manager, Pacific Hydro) Matthew Wright (Director, Beyond Zero Emissions)
Panel: Andrew Dyer (Director, BrightSource Energy) Assoc. Prof. Peter Seligman (UoM)
Wednesday, July 14 at 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Basement Theatre, The Spot, Melbourne University
NAIDOC week 4 - 11 July
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The national theme for 2010 is 'Unsung Heroes - Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way' which recognises the part played by quiet achievers in the Indigenous community.
This year Melbourne is proud to be the host city for NAIDOC Week and you can check out all the fabulous events at - http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Whatson/Naidoc/Pages/events.aspx
A Week of Love and Lust: The Case for Gay Marriage
As the philosopher Pat Benatar said, Love is a Battlefield. As if it wasn’t hard enough finding the right person and making it all work, society’s failure to recognise all relationships as equal has been a long-standing source of grief and difficulty for many. In this very special Love and Lust edition of the Lunchbox/Soapbox, we make the case for throwing the chapel doors wide open and making a broad church of marriage.
The Wheeler Centre, 12:45PM - 1:15PM, Thursday 08 July 2010
