Ignite is offering you the unique opportunity to be linked with global health professionals through the Global Health Mentoring Program. The program is currently open to all Monash Medical students who are able to commit to the program for the full year. The application process will be open until May 3. See below to find out what the program involves, and read about one of the current students' involvement in the program.

This program offers you opportunities to further your skills and knowledge in global health through a one-to-one partnership with a global health professional. In addition to this knowledge base, you will have scope for networking and career development with not only all year levels of medicine but also throughout the whole profession.

Student responsibilities:

As part of this program, you will be expected to, with relation to your interaction with your mentor:

  • Initiate contact with the mentor and be proactive in all further meetings
  • Work with the mentor to develop partnership goals and work to ensure they are reached
  • Maintain a time commitment of 4-5 hours per month for the full year
  • Ensure I am a proactive member of the partnership, engaging fully with my mentor
  • Read the modules and engage in discussion around them with my mentors and ensure that appropriate levels of research is completed for the discussion paper and any other areas of interest
  • Be respectful and receptive to my mentor’s suggestions and opportunities given

As part of this program, you will be expected to, with relation to your interaction with the GHMP team:

  • Actively participate in pre-program discussion of the module content amongst the GHMP students
  • Provide a monthly update the GHMP team regarding my work with my mentor, including a 3-monthly reflection on each of the modules (in the order of your choosing)
  • Communicate with the GHMP team in a timely manner
  • Complete the pre/during/post program surveys
  • Submit an article on a topic of my choosing for the Global Health Mentoring Program magazine

This program is currently open to all Monash medical students who are able to commit to the program for the full year (from July 2013 until July 2014).
